125. Scissor-tailed Flycather

Date          July 29, 2003
Location     a Burger King, Oklahoma City, OK

We were travelling by car from Ohio to Texas and had stopped at a Burger King/gas station combo to eat in Oklahoma City. The topic of the scissor-tail was at the forefront. We even joked about seeing them in random places, and then it happened.

We were sitting there eating when my son Kevin alerted us that one was outside. For a split second I thought he was just kidding around or mistaken (as if you could mistake a male scissor-tail), and to our amazement, there he was! He was perched out by the gas pumps in a tree. We then watched him fly to another tree.

This was also the first new bird outside the state of Ohio.
