Location Spur Cross Ranch, Phoenix, AZ
For my afternoon session, I headed north of Phoenix for about a 45 minute drive. As I drove in along a dirt road, I logged two new birds before parking. The first was an oriole perched in a tree. It was quite obvious that it was an oriole, and the large white patch was also very visible. I had the identification almost immediately.
I later saw a first-year male getting nectar from tiny red flowers in a tree. He is very reminiscent of the first-year Orchard Oriole with his little black goatee.
