The Yellow-legged Gull is a bewildering mass of common and even Latin names due to various splits and lumps over time. I won't even get started on any explanation. It's out there if you really want to know.
There were lots of these standing around. They are very common in Europe and are listed as a rare bird in North America, so this is one of the few that I have listed in both.
