206. Black-billed Cuckoo

Date         September 9, 2007
Location    Hoffman Farms West (neighborhood), Hilliard, OH

This has to be one of the strangest additions to the list. The appearance of this bird reminded me of the nightjar that perched on a newspaper on my front porch one day (and immediately flew away, unfortunately).

I was visiting a friend in a neighborhood close by (by now we had moved away from Gillette Ave.), and this bird perched in a small tree out back near a window. I got a good enough look to identify it as a juvenile Black-billed Cuckoo.

Sometimes you see a bird in a tree and search forever trying to identify it. Sometimes a bird just falls in your lap, almost literally.
