Location Charlottesville, VA
My notes say that this was at a Wendy's which was near a river. Looking at Google maps, I see that there is indeed a Wendy's adjacent to a gas station on highway 250, just off of I-65.
This one is very reminiscent of the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher: stopping for fuel and food on the road. While I was getting gas, there was a whole flock on some wires nearby, with a river (the Rivanna) nearby. They seemed to have faster wingbeats than regular crows, then I heard them calling.
