Location Green Lawn Cemetery (the Pit), Columbus, OH
This was an after-work visit. There were several other birders there, and the weather was quite nice, somewhat unusual for April. I was standing on the end near the feeders when a bird flew overhead and landed in the shallows on the opposite end of the Pit's pond. Another guy there helped me spot it and identify it, although I was able to independently confirm it.
I was certainly not looking for or expecting sandpipers at this location, but I was sure happy to get it! Besides woodcock (which is a shorebird in name only), I've never seen another sandpiper at Green Lawn cemetery.
Cornell: Solitary Sandpiper
