113. Purple Martin

Date          May 16, 2003
Location     Delaware State Park, Delaware, OH

This was another weekday in which I took some time off. This time, I had read about a banding event in the Delaware Wildlife Area. I also knew that there were Purple Martin nesting boxes in the nearby state park marina (from my visit there the summer before), so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

I figured this was the only way I'd see a Purple Martin, and to this day some 15 years later, it is in fact true that I've never seen any except this time that I visited the "hotel" specifically prepared for them.

There were dozens of them in a colony.

Moving on.
