160. Common Gallinule

Date         June 3, 2005
Location    Whittier Ave., Columbus, OH

One morning, I was walking around my "secret" spot just past where the current Audubon center is now. There is a short spur in the mulched path that approaches the Scioto river. Peeking through the trees, I saw him swimming away from me. He jerked his neck and looked a rather clumsy swimmer compared to ducks.

This was called Common Moorhen at the time. There was a split from the European version some time later.
